The Solar-Powered Charging Station is a
project that I am contributing to for
Engineers for a Sustainable World.
Specifically, the Solar Centric team.
While playing volleyball at the sand
volleyball courts with another member of the
solar centric team, we realized that there was
no where to plug in our phones. The courts are
not in a very central area, and people are
often at the courts pretty late in the
evening. This combination means there are a
lot of dead phones, and a high need for a
charging station.
Once we found this need, we pitched it to the
other members of our club. Then, we spent the
next few months designing the charging
station. I contributed a lot to this process.
Specifically, I created the design for the
electronics within the charging station.
We want the charging station to remain in
place for long after we graduate, so our focus
is on longevity and ease-of-repair.
Consequently, we are sourcing parts from
trusted manufactures and combining them to
make our charging station.
Currently, we are pursuing funding from the
Green Initiative's Fund. Once we have sufficient funds, we will move
on to assembling our first charging station.
